Bookworks Volunteer

Bookworks is our social enterprise run entirely by volunteers and almost exclusively by donations and support from the community. We rely on the generosity of our residents and visitors alike to keep our doors open and our inventory relevant.

How you helpWe are asking for donations, in any amount, to distribute to the our most vulnerable community members. Each and every donation that is contributed here will be paid out to low-income community members in the form of a grocery gift card for food. Please help. About usWe work with the community to support learning, foster parent engagement, and promote wellness for all ethnicities and back grounds. We are a school based, public benefit, not for profit 501c3, CA corporation, with support from Lake Tahoe Unified School District, Lake Tahoe Community College and El Dorado County Mental Health Dept. Programs offered include: Bilingual counseling to assist with life’s challenges Bilingual advocacy, and translations for a variety of issues including mental wellness, educational success, healthy living, navigating the health care system, job searches, and other resilience building activities. Weekly Latino parent groups at each school called Cafecitos ESL classes in partnership with the Lake Tahoe Community College Spanish language parent training classes Children’s groups called Parabajitos (For the Little Ones), summer learning opportunities Yearly support for identification through the Mexican Consulate We operate the Bookworks, a used book store at Lakeview Plaza, with volunteers
