Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (NPHY)
Ways to help | Monthly Baking ContestOnce a month NPHY hosts a baking contest. Volunteers will prepare snacks such as cookies, cupcakes, and other confections at the Drop-In Center. Volunteers will not only prepare the snacks, they will also decorate them. Once all baked goods are prepared, NPHY’s homeless clients will decide the contest winner, and shortly thereafter feast on the yummy baked goods prepared by the volunteers. The purpose of this activity is to provide volunteers with an opportunity to interact with our homeless clients in a fun and non-intimidating way.The “Everything” ProjectThe “Everything” Project is suitable for groups of 12-15 volunteers. In this project, we will combine elements of Feel Good Friday, Sacked Lunch Super Heroes, and Cookin’ for a Cause to create the ultimate NPHY volunteer experience. Volunteers will be put into 3 small groups, where they will make sacked lunches, create hygiene kits, prepare a BBQ lunch for the clients at the Drop-In Center, and prepare for Feel Good Friday. The day will culminate with volunteers passing out items at Feel Good Friday.Residential Expansion/ Improvement ProjectsResidential Expansion/ Improvement Projects are great for 12-15 volunteers. Volunteers will assist with service projects that focus on improving NPHY’s housing facilities. Projects available may vary, but can include assisting us with assembling bunk beds and rearranging the client’s Independent Living and Emergency Shelter condos, painting projects, property maintenance/organization projects, beautification/restoration projects, and more.Cookin´ for a CauseCookin´ for a Cause is an opportunity appropriate for 6 volunteers. Volunteers host a BBQ for homeless youth at our Drop-In Center. NPHY’s Drop-In Center is lucky to have a gas grill and beautiful patio area that is perfect for a BBQ! Volunteer groups will be asked to supply the food and menu of your choosing and a grill master to prepare hot meals for NPHY’s clients. This activity is typically hosted on Wednesdays in the afternoon.Feel Good FridayThe goal of Feel Good Friday is to establish a trusting relationship between NPHY and youth who are at-risk of homelessness by providing resources to such youth. Outreach volunteers and staff will provide food, clothing, hygiene items, school supplies, information about available services, and other needed items in targeted at-risk neighborhoods throughout Las Vegas.Sacked Lunch Super HeroesSacked Lunch Super Heroes is a volunteer activity appropriate for 4-5 volunteers. Sacked Lunch Super Heroes is hosted every Thursday from 4:00pm-5:30pm (negotiable). Volunteers are asked to assemble sacked lunches that will be distributed during NPHY’s weekly outreach activities. We ask that volunteers bring the needed supplies to put together at least 120 sack lunches – a supply list will be provided.Drop-In Center Do-GooderDrop-In Center Do-Gooder volunteers will be asked to help around at the NPHY Drop-In Center. This activity is great for someone looking for service hours or professional experience. A Drop-in Center Do-Gooder can help out by assisting in answering phone calls, checking the dates on food pantry items, assisting in re-stocking the clothing closet, and assisting with other clerical tasks at the center. Drop-In Center Do-Gooder’s can sign up for 2 hour intervals. |
