Our missionHelping Hands of Vegas Valley is a non-profit whose mission is to improve the quality of life for senior citizens and their families in order to maintain their dignity and independence.
Our boardBoard Members are critical to the effectiveness of Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, both as advocates for the senior citizens our network serves and stewards of the organization’s resources. Helping Hands of Vegas Valley Board of Directors provides oversight and assures the organization remains focused on its mission while remaining consistent and in compliance with the organization’s Bylaws.  The role and responsibility of the Board is to -
  • Promote and implement the mission of Helping Hands of Vegas Valley.
  • Serve as an asker, advocate or ambassador for Helping Hands of Vegas Valley to generate various forms of organizational support, including the recruitment of new Board and Committee Members and generating financial support.
  • Actively promote the purpose of Helping Hands of Vegas Valley through effective communication with the network, public, press, legislative bodies, and other organizations as appropriate.
Overall, board members have a duty of loyalty to the organization, its staff and other board members.  While differences of opinion will likely arise, board members should keep disagreements impersonal.  By practicing discretion and accepting decision made on a majority basis, the board can accomplish unity and confidence in its decisions.

RequirementsAdditional Board Requirements Include:
  • Oversight of Helping Hands of Vegas Valley operational activities, including:
  1. Support and annually evaluate the Executive Director;
  2. Establish and regularly review Helping Hands of Vegas Valley goals and objectives;
  3. Develop, implement, and monitor the Strategic Plan;
  4. Act as fiduciary in approving and monitoring the operating budget and ensuring that all fiscal/control policies are adhered to;
  5. Act as the Governing body in approving policies and procedures;
  6. Assure compliance with all local, state, and national laws.
  7. Conduct an annual self-evaluation;
  8. Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies
  9. Elect officers at the Annual Meeting.
  • Participate in Helping Hands of Vegas Valley sponsored events and activities.
  • Serve a minimum of one year term.
  • Attend at least 80% of Board meetings and the annual in-person Board Retreat (if held).
  • Actively participate on at least one standing Board committee.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts with personally meaningful gifts. This can include donation of time, money and/or in-kind.
  • Identify and contact, when requested, potential funders at the individual, corporate, and foundation levels to assist in ensuring the financial support of Helping Hands of Vegas Valley’s mission and vision.

  • Arrive at meetings on time, well prepared and ready to engage in thoughtful dialogue.
  • Agree to and pass a background check.
  • Keep informed on current issues and trends affecting senior citizen based on areas of expertise.
On-boardingWe understand and appreciate that our Board of Directors will come to the organization with a variety of skills, talents, and experiences.  These individual assets will be vital to our success as we grow. We also realize that not everyone has the same skill set and/or comfort level with nonprofit governance and/or fundraising.  With this in mind, just as we do for the senior citizens we serve, Helping Hands of Vegas Valley wants to ensure your success as a Board Member by providing resources to help you succeed.  Therefore, we commit to provide you:

  • Goal setting tools, including an individualized work plan, strategic plan, communications plan, and fundraising plan
