Board Member – Finance

Our missionTo #MakeSickleCellPopular by increasing awareness, educating, and advocating for long term changes for the SCD population of Nevada to improve Equity and access to care for those affected by SCD and other Rare Diseases while also addressing health disparities.
Our boardDreamsickle Kids Foundation's board is comprised of a diverse group of individuals who bring a wide range of views and resources to the nonprofit that align with the mission to #MakeSickleCellPopular and advocate for health equity and awareness in Nevada for those impacted by Sickle Cell and any of the other 7000 Rare Diseases.
PositionThe board member responsible for finance should have experience in budgeting, real estate, investments, operating a business, banking, accounting (specific knowledge of nonprofit accounting and generally accepting accounting practices) in order to provide overall guidance in the area of financial planning and resource utilization.

Requirements
  1. Duty of Care: Take care of the nonprofit by ensuring prudent use of all assets, including facility, people, and good will;
  2. Duty of Loyalty: Ensure that the nonprofit's activities and transactions are, first and foremost, advancing its mission; Recognize and disclose conflicts of interest; Make decisions that are in the best interest of the nonprofit corporation; not in the best interest of the individual board member (or any other individual or for-profit entity).
  3. Duty of Obedience: Ensure that the nonprofit obeys applicable laws and regulations; follows its own bylaws; and that the nonprofit adheres to its stated corporate purposes/mission.
On-boardingOur on boarding process is inclusive of, but not limited to, all that an orientation entails. It is the process of integrating and acculturating new board members into the organization and providing them with the tools, re- sources, and knowledge to be successful and productive in her/his role.
