300 hours term full-time term, Stipend of $1229.16 mth, Education Award $1,289.95 upon successful completion of service. Friday-Sunday 9:00 am-6:00 pm. Hours and days may vary. The AmeriCorps member will assist in stewardship projects and events throughout the Black Rock Desert High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area (NCA). Will assist in planning and executing stewardship projects and events including; improving and maintaining back-country trails, installing wilderness boundary markers, flag fencing in sage grouse habitat, Black Rock Rendezvous, National Trails Day, and 4th of July and Perseids Meteor Shower camp-out events. Required Knowledge, skills, abilities: flexibility regarding work service, weekends will be required, basic computer skills, valid driver’s license, enjoy the outdoors and camping, willingness to work in inclement weather, self motivated and ability to multi task, excellent communication skills, including public speaking, presentation and written communication, strong organizational skills. This position involves some camping and backpacking and stewardship projects will be conducted outdoors, often in remote locations where camping will be at undeveloped recreation sites.
