Nevadans Unite in Service for AmeriCorps 20th Anniversary Celebration
RENO/LAS VEGAS, September 10, 2014 — On September 12th the nation will celebrate the extraordinary impact of AmeriCorps over the last 20 years. Nevada Volunteers, the Governor’s Commission on Service, will join in the 20th Anniversary celebration by promoting service of all kinds through engagement of Nevada AmeriCorps members and alums, Green Zone Give Back volunteers, and community members in service projects in both Reno and Las Vegas. The service events will begin with a swearing-in ceremony, where AmeriCorps members and Nevadans alike can commit to “getting things done” for Nevada through service, and culminate with a brief Celebration of Service ceremony.
These events are seen as an opportunity to promote service as a solution to Nevada’s needs by the Office of the Governor and Nevada Volunteers. We expect more than 150 AmeriCorps members, AmeriCorps Alums, military veterans, nonprofit leaders, corporate champions, and other partners to attend at each location. Local community partners include: City of North Las Vegas, City of Reno, and Nevada AmeriCorps programs including Children’s Cabinet; Great Basin Institute; Nevada Outdoors School; Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation; United Way of Southern Nevada; and Urban Roots.
