Our missionThe Kline Veterans Fund provides emergency housing assistance and other support to homeless and at-risk Veterans and their families in Southern Nevada.

PositionBoard of Directors Roles, Responsibilities and QualificationsKVF seeks to improve the quality of life for veterans in Clark County through programs that mitigate veteran homelessness and provide supportive services for our community's most vulnerable veterans.Through financial assistance, education, outreach, and advocacy, KVF serves and supports hundreds of Southern Nevada veteran households annually.Position The Board of Directors (Board) supports the work of KVF and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by KVF's executive director, the Board/staff relationship is a partnership, with an expected level of  involvement to support the mission.KVF values diversity among its Board members. The composition of the Board should reflect the composition of the veteran community in terms of background, race, age, religion, professional and personal skills, life experience and contributions of its members to ensure peer to peer understanding and effectiveness in achieving the goals and mission of the organization.Serving as a board member of Kline Veterans Fund involves a very special commitment.  To meet that commitment, board members are expected to adhere to the following abilities and characteristics.Leadership, governance and oversight Believe in and be an active advocate and ambassador for the values, mission and vision of the organization Work together with fellow board members and staff to fulfill the mission in accordance with the organization’s bylaws Review outcomes and metrics for evaluating impact, performance and effectiveness Keep informed about the organization, its issues and its connection to the veteran community Attend and actively participate in all board meetings Review reports sent with meeting reminders before the meeting in order to foster an informed dialogue at all meetings Approve the annual budget Help identify, evaluate, and cultivate prospective donors and board members in tandem with the Executive Director Attend and participate in as many outreach and fundraising events as possible Assist the ED and Board Chair with identifying and recruiting new Board Members Represent KVF to constituents; act as an ambassador for the organization Board members that are active on social media are encouraged to like, share, and comment on KVF posts in order to increase organic reach, exposure, and overall awareness Complete and sign a “Conflict of Interest” Statement annually Complete and sign a board member “Confidentiality Agreement” annually Fundraising KVF Board Members consider KVF a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. Acknowledge fiduciary responsibility by making a personally meaningful donation to the organization annually Cultivate additional gifts to the organization from individuals, businesses and other contacts within his/her sphere of influence. Board Terms / Participation KVF Board Members serve a two-year term and are then eligible for re-election for additional terms. General Board meetings are held in person once per month. Committee meetings are held at regular intervals at the discretion of each individual committee. Qualifications This is an extraordinary opportunity for individual leaders who are passionate about our mission.It is preferred but not required that the directors are veterans of the U.S. armed services.Ideal candidates embody the following qualities:Capable and willing to attend monthly Board meetings, actively contribute to the discussion, and commit to participating in key events Appreciation for the critical role of philanthropy at the Board level and a personal commitment to meet or exceed Board fundraising requirements; ability and willingness to communicate our mission, vision and strategic priorities to colleagues and solicit their financial support in a meaningful way Ability to bring mature judgment and analytical vision to complex matters and bold enough to make difficult decisions Natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals Ability to have influence within their own community; ability to open doors and attract others in support of our mission and fundraising initiatives An appreciation for, and understanding of, the role that non-profit organizations play in meeting critical needs in the community Personal qualities of honesty, integrity and credibility Passion for advocating in support of KVF priority issues Service on the KVF Board of Directors is without remuneration
