Our boardThe mission of YNPN Southern Nevada is to engage and support future nonprofit and community leaders through professional development, networking, and social opportunities designed for young people to get involved in the Southern Nevada nonprofit community.As we are an all-volunteer organization, our board is the driving force that both sets the strategy and implement them. We are a "starter board" that consistently serves as a springboard for both career growth and future board service, with many of our alumni continuing their careers in Southern Nevada's nonprofit community in various capacities.We welcome young professionals, those who are new to the field, and those who are simply interested in the nonprofit world.
PositionAs YNPN Southern Nevada is an all-volunteer organizations, board members are directly involved in all aspects of the organization's activities. A board director at YNPN Southern Nevada has the following roles, broadly:
  • Establish organizational policies and evaluation procedures.
  • Participate in board development activities and ongoing evaluation efforts.
  • Regularly attend and participate in scheduled monthly board meetings.
  • Attend committee meetings and events, as needed.
  • Represent YNPN to the public, businesses, government officials, and the community
  • Participate in a specific committee position (for example, Events, Membership, Program, Communications, and more)
Board terms are two years, starting in January 2022.Note: desired skills encompass multiple committee positions -- you don't have to have all of them! It is also worthwhile to note that many of our past and current board members took the opportunity to develop specific skill sets that they are interested in during their tenure with YNPN.

RequirementsAs noted, we welcome young professionals, those who are new to the field, and those who are simply interested in the nonprofit world. Lack of experience is no barrier!
  • Board terms are for two years, starting in January, with officer terms (co-chairs, secretary, treasurer) for one year with re-election possible.
  • Time commitment ranges from 5-15 hours per month, depending on your personal interests and role with the board.
  • The board meets every month, with ten out of twelve meetings being regular board meetings. Two meetings will be longer strategic sessions, generally in January and July.
  • Board service dues are $100/annually; however, we do not wish for this to be a barrier to service, so we will work with those with financial challenges to waive or reduce the dues.
On-boardingThe onboarding process begins with an invitation to the December board meeting of the year, though the formal onboarding starts the following January.
