How you helpAge On serves economically disadvantaged, special population older Nevadans facing debilitating medical conditions, isolation, and marginalization, who are lacking access to resources. We provide volunteers to; read aloud, educate, socialize, game play, learning, arts and culture, encourage personal life stories, creative writing, music learning and more. AARP has called social isolation a “growing health epidemic” among older adults. It equates the health risks of prolonged isolation with smoking 15 cigarettes daily. As Nevada's senior population increases and senior services are eliminated, there is a growing need for companionship and cognitive development programs.
About usAge On (formally Age-Friendly Network Nevada) began in January of 2017, after acknowledging a need to change the way we talk about aging. Age On facilitates a network aimed at providing a voice for older adults by collecting positive stories to fight outdated stereotypes. We focus on connecting and unifying voices, combating ageism, informing the problem on social and economic insecurities; and helping support organizations promoting an age friendly city. Age On is committed to local collaboration and thinks local first. Age On spotlights the need for human connection and well being, by offering a reading program to older adults and providing opportunities to learn music. By collecting positive stories on aging we can help combat ageism, promote advocacy and educate the community. Aging is positive, and together we can Age On! AGE ON - MEANING Expresses a general enthusiasm about aging, derived from phrases like “game-on” “bring it on” and “right on”. The term cast’s aging as a dynamic and forward moving process through the buildup of experiences and insights. It denotes a readiness and eagerness to face the challenges of aging stereotypes
