ORGANIZATIONS NEEDED TO MAKE AN IMPACT IN NEVADA

Federal Funding Available For Nevada Organizations to Plan to Host an AmeriCorps Program

RENO | LAS VEGAS, January 26, 2015 — Each year Nevada AmeriCorps grantees impact the quality of life in Nevada through national service funding provided through the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. Nevada is excited to open its Special Planning Grant Notice of Funding Opportunity for nonprofits, faith-based organizations, government entities or Indian tribes looking to make a positive imprint through development of a national service program in Nevada for the grant year 2015-16. Special funds are presently available to NEW applicants to increase AmeriCorps programs statewide by applying for a planning grant. Planning grants do NOT provide AmeriCorps members.

Planning grants provide initial funding to support current staff or hire additional staff who can plan the proposed AmeriCorps program, negotiate collaborations with partners, develop meaningful performance measures and develop systems for successful implementation of the AmeriCorps operational grant application that is submitted for the following grant year.

“This past September, we celebrated twenty years of individuals and organizations providing much needed resources and manpower to our communities through service. It is our hope that new organizations will join us to create quality strategies and implementations to impact their communities through service,” said Amber Martin-Jahn, Executive Director of Nevada Volunteers.

Nevada Volunteers is seeking applicants for specific funding priorities, including: disaster services, economic opportunity, healthy futures, education, and veterans and military families. Applicants must be able to demonstrate the capacity to administer federal funds; implement a detailed plan of action to address a local unmet need; present strong connections to the community it serves, and have the ability to raise the required cash match.
