I first recommend that you use our volunteer connect website; https://nevadavolunteers.org/ which is a good resource to get started looking at organizations you'd be interested in working with in your area. Once you are viewing an organization on this site you can click the "I'm interested" button and that organization will follow-up with you. I have additionally listed a few places below that have opportunities for/in response to the pandemic with their contact information. Many of these organizations have virtual opportunities that you may be able to volunteer with at this time. I hope these resources are able to help you get connected with organizations in your area! Quad County MAC Call & COVID-19 Testing Centers “(located in Carson City) needs additional support with their call centers. This would have to be in-person to answer calls for people who want to schedule their testing and getting them all the needed details. Training will be provided for those who are able to commit COVID-19 Call center: receiving calls from individuals in individuals who may be experiencing symptoms or just have questions. These calls are screened and passed onto the appropriate person. Currently we are staffed seven days a week, 8am-5pm however, we will be cutting back to M-F in a few weeks. CCHHS Call center: Nursing background required: Testing (done by appointment); Triage calls (follow up calls received at COVID call center, may result in need to be scheduled for testing) and Investigations (contact tracing). Non-nursing background : Monitoring (daily follow up calls to those who have tested positive). These volunteers are needed everyday from 9am-5pm. CCHHS: scheduler needed M-F from 10-5pm to help place calls to individuals who are experiencing symptoms and need to be scheduled for testing at CCHHS.” For more information, please contact Jill Hemenway, State of Nevada VOAD Chair at jill.hemenway@redcross.org, Phone: 775-848-2926 Nevada Indian Commission “The virus has a 6% infection rate and is disproportionately killing people of color. Nevada Tribal leaders are worried about a potential high mortality rate among the elderly population. Most of Nevada’s tribes are on lockdown as to minimize contagion and loss of life. This means those members with transportation cannot go to town. The members must remain in isolation and rely on others to bring supplies in. We are asking for help so that our indigenous cultures do not lose more than they already have.” The request is to support with getting potential contacts or wholesalers who would be willing to donate goods and/or sell to the tribes. For more information, please contact Jill Hemenway, State of Nevada VOAD Chair at jill.hemenway@redcross.org, Phone: 775-848-2926 Nevada WIC “…is in need of food delivery options for our most at risk participants. Approximately 130 families in Clark County and around 60 families in Washoe County have been identified as the most vulnerable. We are requesting at least 10 volunteers for the South and up to 10 in the North. WIC EBT benefits cannot be used for curbside pick up or online ordering at this time. This is due to the way benefit redemption is set up on the back end and the limitations on what is allowable to be purchased on the WIC program. While families can designate a proxy to redeem WIC benefits for them, not all families have someone able or willing to help with this need. The Division of Public and Behavioral Health wants to ensure that WIC families who cannot leave their house or risk exposure to COVID-19 are still able to receive the supplemental nutritious foods provided to them by the WIC program. This includes formula and baby foods issued to infants on the program” We are looking for 10 volunteers in Washoe County and 10 volunteers in Clark County. For more information, please contact Sarah Metcalf at smetcalf@health.nv.gov or cmcdaniel@health.nv.gov Nevada COVID-19 Aging Network (Nevada CAN) “led by the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division. Nevada CAN was created to mobilize all available resources and ensure that every elder Nevadan has access to medical services, social support, and daily essentials in their home, thus reducing COVID-19 exposure and impact. Nevada CAN aims to ensure that all elders are safe, that their basic daily requirements and medical needs are met, and that they are free from social isolation during this time of social distancing. To help Nevada CAN achieve this goal, we are actively recruiting volunteers to: 1) provide virtual social support (via online and telephone-based platforms), and/or 2) deliver essential supplies to the front doors of elders’ homes (two opportunities to serve). To get started as a Nevada CAN volunteer, please visit the Nevada CAN website to complete and submit a brief volunteer interest form and a member of our team will contact you within three business days to learn more about your interests: https://www.nevada211.org/seniors-covid19-resources/ Thank you for your support. Nevada CAN, and we will!” City of Reno "One of our biggest needs is for resources at the Community Assistance Center (homeless shelter), which is managed by Volunteers of America (VOA). Meal Services and supplies are also needed at the shelters including masks, gloves, medical gowns, and cleaning supplies. A supply of non-perishable food and water would be useful should they be needed. Additional supplies such as thermometers, staff, and transportation would be needed should the health department require a pre-screening for COVID-19 be required at the shelters."
