Governor Brian Sandoval proclaims March 11 through 17, 2018 AmeriCorps Week in Nevada

Nevada, Statewide, March 9th, 2018 —Nevada Volunteers is pleased to announce Governor Brian Sandoval has proclaimed the week of March 11th through March 17th, 2018, as AmeriCorps Week in Nevada. We will be celebrating the week with a social media takeover. Each day next week an AmeriCorps member from a different program from throughout the state of Nevada, will take over Nevada Volunteers social media showcasing their service in their local communities.

This year in Nevada, 327 AmeriCorps members will help to meet local needs at 78 host sites in 11 counties statewide. Thanks to AmeriCorps members, over 640 children and youth will be mentored, more than 800 people in rural communities will have assistance finding healthcare options to fight opioid and prescription drug abuse, and 2,700 acres of land will be cleared of invasive species and other fire fuel hazards.

Last year, AmeriCorps members recruited 749 Nevadans as volunteers. These volunteers gave nearly 6,000 hours to improving their communities. AmeriCorps week is a celebration and an opportunity to recognize the dedication of those who have chosen to serve their country through AmeriCorps and encourage others to do the same in both the state of Nevada and throughout the country.

Nevada Volunteers is proud to do our part in making these AmeriCorps programs possible and to inspire a culture of service and volunteerism that enhances the quality of life for all Nevadans.
