The Nature Center Host/Interpreter will primarily assist in the development of the Truckee Meadows Nature Center at the proposed Nature Study Area through the development of exhibits and educational material, providing information to community members regarding restoration efforts, and lead interpretive tours throughout the wetland.
The mission of Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation (TMPF) is to support the parks department’s operating in Truckee Meadows, including Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County. We do this primarily by providing in-park programming and opportunities for citizen engagement. TMPF is an independent, nonprofit organization that began operating in 2013. Our current programs focus on improving community health and wellness and developing peoples’ appreciation for the natural and cultural history found in local parks.
The AmeriCorps Nature Center Host/Interpreter will be an essential member of the team for this young non-profit organization. This person will implement and support the Wetland Restoration Program. The Wetland Restoration Program aims to restore a decommissioned golf course back to a functional wetland system. This AmeriCorps member will assist in communicating the importance of restoration through the development and implementation of environmental education exhibits and events, interacting with Nature Center visitors, and leading interpretive tours of the property.
