My name is Amanda Christian and I am the Operations Manager. We do not have a volunteer coordinator and I do my best to organize volunteers when I can. I apologize as this is a copy/paste message and I may not be able to answers questions. Hopefully, this info will help you get started. Volunteers are organized into three levels. All volunteers start at Level One and the following information is for Volunteers Level One: WHO: Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult guardian. Our current volunteer opportunities are only for ages 12 and older. WHAT: Our volunteer tasks depend on what is needed that day. We need volunteers who are willing and able to help with most anything we are tackling that day. Taking care of our animals and property is labor-intensive hard work. WHEN: Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays at 8am sharp. We don't accommodate latecomers so if you aren't there at 8am, please understand we won't backtrack to let you in. Volunteers Level Two and Three have more flexibility, but this is a hard rule for Volunteers Level One. WHERE: Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary, 8103 Racel Street, Las Vegas, NV 89131 - Technically our parking lot and front gate are on Al Carrison Street. We are located in the far northwest of Las Vegas, off North Durango Drive and the 95 Freeway. WEAR: Clothing and shoes you can get dirty. The mornings are cold so dress in warm layers. Most all volunteer tasks are outdoors. HOW: Masks are not required outside unless you are working directly with certain animals so please bring your mask and have it with you. We have work gloves but please bring your own if you have some. Please keep personal belongings in your car but bring a bottle of water. HOW MUCH: Volunteers Level One start at 8am and ends at 10am. If you need to do more hours, please let us know at the beginning of the day and we'll keep you busy and help you get those hours completed. WHY: Our mission is to educate people about responsible pet ownership. Our goal is that every person thoroughly researches and deeply contemplates a pet before making the life-time commitment to their care. Our 101yr old property and 42yr old Sanctuary need a lot of TLC that need to be tended to before we can primarily focus on educational outreach. Thank you for your help!
