Due to current funding and staffing levels, our agency is working at ‘full capacity’ and not able to start new Matches. However, this email will give you some basics about volunteering as a ‘Big’, which you will need should you apply at a later date. -We require our volunteers make an 18 month commitment to the program, and to consistent monthly meetings with their Little. -Volunteer ‘Bigs’ meet with their ‘Littles’ for 4 to 6 hours per month. -We have a residency requirement of at least six months. -We require that you have been with your current employer for at least three months. -We match a volunteer with one child only. -Please have a realistic understanding that you may need to travel up to 25 to 45 minutes to a Littles home, then out to an activity, as well as return trips. -Monthly phone and/or email or in-person contact with BBBSN staff is mandatory in all of our programs, during the entire length of the match. -Child safety is our number one goal! We also take the steps needed to make sure that we are the right agency for a family and a Little to be involved with. Your safety and healthy relationship with a youth are a top priority. We will not match a volunteer with a youth whose circumstances are not appropriate for a volunteer. We commonly have the highest need for the following Volunteers: *Big Brothers to work with Little Brothers from ages 7 to 15. 75% of our waiting and incoming Littles are boys in this age range. *Volunteers (both men and women) in the Site Based Program in our partnership schools and Community Centers from September through May. In the Site Based Program, volunteers meet with their Little exclusively at the chosen Site for one hour per week. The meetings are in the same hour each week. We will be accepting applications to our Site Based Program starting July 1st 2020. *All volunteer applicants are processed and considered equally, but we are more able to Match a volunteer in the circumstances above. We hope to have the ability to begin new Matches soon. When funding and staffing levels allow new Matches, we will be happy to work with you and guide you through the application process. Thank you again for your inquiry. Sincerely, Ed Krien Program Specialist
